Building upon your favorite stories from Set 1, Set 2's blend readers introduce 38 different adjacent consonants, also known as blends. Created especially for older, struggling readers, these Hi-Lo decodable books continue to feature a diverse and relatable cast of teenage characters in age-appropriate, high-interest stories.

This portion of Set 2 aligns specifically with Phase 4 (Blends) of the Letters & Sounds program. The readers employ strictly controlled text to ensure that students are exposed only to the letter sounds they have previously learned. Additionally, tricky words are introduced only after they've been taught. These readers guide students week-by-week, offering a text-based platform for practicing emerging reading skills and building confidence in mastering the phonics code. The set is compatible with other popular reading schemes, with book-banded reading levels provided. This set includes 12 books at the Phase 4 level.

What are Decodable Readers?

Decodable Readers are readers that have been written with strictly controlled vocabulary so that they only use decodable regular words in accordance with a week-by-week progression of letter sounds. Decodable readers can also use a small number of common exception words (or tricky words) and these are provided in the front of the reader so children can become familiar with them before reading the text.
